Work Project Begins!
January 2024
Because of the generous monetary gifts that were given during the holiday season we have been able to begin the first stage in the construction project. This project will repair the current house and add a large living room where everyone in the Refuge is able to gather in one room for devotions, studies and to spend time together. This project will also add a bathroom to the house since it does not currently have one. Supplies have been purchased and worked started. Please check back for more updates on the progress of the work and if you would like to contribute to the remaining cost of the project you are able to do so on the Get Involved page. Thank you for your generous contributions!
Medical Campaign
December 2023
On December 2, the Belen Refuge hosted a free medical campaign for those who live at the refuge as well as those in the community around them. Announcements and flyers were distributed throughout the neighborhood in the weeks leading up to the campaign and donations of medications and medical equipment were also collected.
Most of the medical staff are members of Iglesia Bautista Gracia. The areas of attention provided were general medicine, triage, pharmacy, pediatrics, and dentistry. They offered medical attention and also talk sessions about various health topics, like healthy eating, correct use of medications, hand washing, anemia prevention, and dental care. A total of 150 patients were attended to in 8 hours.
For the children who came, there were puppet shows that explained the meaning of the Gospel through fun stories. There were also church members available for evangelization as people finished their medical care sessions.
GGC Trip to Peru
October 2023
Six members of Gospel Grace Church spent a week in Peru visiting the Belen Refuge. They spent quality time with the children to get to know them personally through lunches together, lessons, games and a fun day at the beach. They were also able to help paint the girl’s dorm and interview Santos and Lys to capture more of their story and how God worked to bring about the Refuge Home. Check back on the Interviews tab soon to see more!
Kelly Hopkins, who is a licensed therapist, held a workshop with the Mentors from Gracia to help answer questions they may have on helping children who have endured what many of these children have. She provided them with helpful insight and resources to continue their invaluable work of pushing in, loving the children of the Belen Refuge and sharing Jesus with them.
